There is S**T in the meat.

The Book Fast Food Nation by Eric Schlosser is a book i haven’t read, but now that it has been optioned into a motion picture, i feel obligated to see it after what i read in Schlosser’s Rolling Stone article. The article traces the origins of the fast food meal, and its transformation into the now common American staple, that a majority of Americans eat on average four times a week.

McDonald’s, a big player in this dominant industry,  is looked at in detail from its conception to the monopoly it has become today, with its famous advertising symbols, the golden arches becoming more recognizable than the Christian Cross. Even more disturbing, the in detail description of the procedures, trends, and standards (and the failure to adhere to these standards) of the agricultural industry along with its meatpacking plants are enough to make me go vegetarian. The conditions are completely unacceptable, unregulated for the most part, and far far below what is considered industry standard. The short descriptions is reminiscent of SinClair’s The Jungle.

Basically there is shit in the meat. Not to mention a number of other vile and dangerous pathogens and bacteria such as E-Coli that go unchecked are shipped out to thousands of Fast Food joints nation wide. There are numerous concerns that go beyond the fast food counter that often go unchecked such as factory safety conditions, immigration, sanitation, worker abuse, other socio-economic issues that have repercussions far reaching into the American landscape. It is truly a small slice of the drive of greed and power in the American corporation psyche, and how the system that supports it, is the very system that is raped. Beyond general promotion of health concern, this is truly ugly.

I might even read the book…definately seeing the film. If you read the article it will make you simultaneously nauseated and furious, a condition that could induce projectile vomiting or death.

As a small kid I remember how excited I got when Dad said we were going to go to McDonalds. It wasn’t part of the regular diet, it was something you only did on special occasions.

Now, knowing what I do about fast food (and food processing in general), I cringe at the thought of what’s in the food. If I had a kid, I’d probably due everything in my power to make sure they didn’t know about fast food.

    Did your vote count today?

A documentary on HBO that i have recently seen is very eyeopening to the process of modern vote counting, and the possibility of vote tampering in prior US elections. It is called Hacking Democracy appears on HBO a few times a week. Go to the HBO website for the schedule.

Considering that 80% of the votes in this country are counted by computers, are manufacturers of voting machines and vote counting machines completely unbiased and straight when making their software? How far does the scandal go? Throwing away signed polling tapes a few days after an election in Florida is just the tip of the vote tampering iceberg. Check it out…i think you will enjoy it.

You can also see it on youtube by searching the title Hacking Democracy. Or here is the URL for the entire series of videos that make up the full documentary: Hacking Democracy. Hope you enjoy this, i sure did.

I haven’t seen the documentary yet, but I have heard about it. I’ll be tracking a copy down to watch it. I live in South Florida, so no matter what we do down here there is always some sort of problem with the votes – electronic or paper. So, this has always been a topic on the local talk radio programs and news casts.

I was pleasantly surprised to see that there were relatively few issues here for this election. It’s nice not to be the center of attention for once.

I did go out and vote, but as has been the case in the last few elections (down here anyway) there hasn’t been any candidates to be really excited about. For me, it was the lesser of the evils.

Ted Haggard lives up to my expectations.

Nice follow up to Jesus Camp for ya…He bought Meth from a gay masseuse (who ended up being a prostitute) who was referred to him by the many hotels he stays at while in Denver (supposedly to write) didn’t sleep with him, and then threw the Meth away when he got home…hmmmmm…

This guy is a liar. Idiot.

Meth rots people’s brains, meth-heads tell the most outragous lies and believe them to boot. When their house of lies starts to collapse, more lies is all they know.

The sad thing is that people keeping falling for these charismatic “leaders” despite how so so many of them turn out. From crap like this to Jonestown, what a farce.

As I all too frequently say, Satan does his finest work in the name of the Lord.

Why are christians so obsessed with other peoples sexuality..so obsessed with sex, gender and genitals…really, don’t they worry about real stuff , like poverty, famine, environmental degradation, war and pestilence, the rich gettting richer and the poor getting more destitute.

Why do they get so obessed with homosexuals, claiming it is a threat to the family ..HOW? if your husband runs off with the hussy next door, how can it be the fault of gays/lesbians? How can gays/lesbians be responsible for 50% divorce rate ( incidentally highest divorce are in the bible belt ha ha ).

If your son does drug and your daughter gets laid while on booze – how is that the fault of gays/lesbians. Christians historically sought out scape-goats..they used to blame Jews, then blacks, then gypsies , then women and now since it is no longer fashionable to blame jews or blacks etc, they have to pick on vulnerable minorities like gays and lesbians.

Hitler did not kill 6 million jews in a vacuum. Centuries of marginalization and denigration and demonizing of jews as Jesus killer enable common german citizens to exercise false moral authority in killing jews. In like fashion centuries of demonizing and denigration of homosexuals embolden wicked and otherwise morally bankrupt ‘straight’ bigots to descrimiaate and do violence to gay and lesbian and other sexual minorities .

Furthermore picking on a scape-goat makes christians feel superior and ‘saved’. Denigrating others is easier than exercising love, charity and compassion which is actually the most basic teachings of Jesus of Nazareth. Sadly Christians hardly practise the most important commandemt of Jesus ie. Love God then immediately love your neighbour as yourself ( be he/she gay or staight).

It is AMAZING HOW MANY PEOPLE CALL THEMSELVES CHRISTIANS WHEN THEY IN FACT DO NOT PRACTISE THE MOST IMPORTANT COMMANDMENT OF JESUS !!! THEY WOULD RATHER BE HYPOCRITES AND BE LIKE THE PHARASEES OF OLD DUUUH !

I’m not really sure; i don’t believe in God Mikhail. I admire a lot of the Judeo-Christian ethic though…and as for the homosexual obsession- why are you so effected by it? I guess i could understand if you are gay, but a gay Christian??? Wow, that would be something!
