Halloween, love and such

So, I haven’t been on here in forever, I know. And I know that probably no one reads it anymore, but here I am! Writing while my baby schnoodle sits on my chest and reminds me that me REAL job is to pet her. Gus, I could use a little help here!
So, anyway, I’m about to be married to a THIRTY ONE year old! It’s his birthday in two days… I wish I was doing something cool for him like last year, but it looks like he’s going to be stuck with just me this year!
Ok I’m clearly all over the place. Let me try to summarize the last year or so. I began yoga teacher training, I’m still a lawyer, my husband got a studio, I started volunteering with perfect pet adoption, we are having a Halloween party, my best friend got engaged, we’re trying unsuccessfully to sell our house..and a scary homeless guy tried to sell me a pain killer pill for two dollars. All is good in the world! And don’t worry, I declined the aforementioned street drug. love to all!!

are our dogs really smart, really anxious or both?

mr. parks and i absolutely ADORE our two dogs – gus is a 6 and 1/2 year old terrier mix, and pickle is a 1 and 1/2 year old poodle/schnauzer mix.  we spend a lot of our time at home raving about how amazing and smart and cute and interesting they are.  however, at times our adoration seems to have backfired.  sometimes (most of the time?), they expect too much from us.  remember dogs in the 1980’s?  it seems like they used to greet their owners and then curl up by their feet.  i’m pretty sure those dogs didn’t follow their owners into the bathroom.  literally.  and if you try to close our dogs out (from the bathroom, mind you); well, they could react in a couple of ways: (1) wait right outside the door somewhat patiently (this is the best case scenario), (2) wait outside the door but breathe heavily and tap the door with their paw; or (3) sit *somewhat* patiently outside the door, occasionally inserting a desperate and anxious pant (point being that you never really forget that they are there and, more importantly, WAITING).

anyway, the point of this blog, if there is one, is to complain about the behavior of our beloved, but spoiled, dogs.  right now they are both asleep right by me, so it’s hard to complain (maybe impossible).

Make sure the bitch is calm.

Pickle, our beloved pooch of some six months now, went in to the O.R. to have a standard procedure performed this past Thursday. However, her hyperactivity has made the post-op time a little trying on her new sutures. She has popped a few stitches and we had to get her skin stapled back together to keep her organs from falling out. Sounds worse than it was…it is just so hard to keep her from playing – she is a ball of energy that never seems to run out of batteries.

So, i guess she is no longer a bitch. She is pretty much asexual – like our other dog … but she still acts like a bitch, and she is a bitch to deep under control – that’s for sure. So we have to keep her cage bound for a while…boo hoo.

Wedding woes, change of plans…

It appears that throwing a huge, offensively expensive and outrageous party for our nuptials, and the novelty that it was, has worn off for lack of any real good reason to do it. I mean a party is certainly in order, but spending a small fortune to get 200+ guests nice and liquored up for a few hours and shove food down their throats seems a bit… hmmm… what’s the word… exorbitant, and almost wanton. I mean, we might as well be in Vegas for five hours and the same things could probably occur for a much less hefty price tag. Don’t get me wrong, i think that a party is definitely in order and i will be the first one to pop open a champagne bottle, i just think that we are loosing focus of what we really want to achieve here.We want to get married, not throw the best party Columbus has ever seen. If we could do both without loosing our minds along the way, that would be great. Seeing things as they are, we have chosen an alternate route to the alter – a much cheaper yet, in its own way, much more personal and perhaps beautiful arrangement for our big day. We were thinking of Marco Beach Ocean Resort for a beach side ceremony and reception following on the veranda. Simple, elegant, uncomplicated. We are by no means big planners. I can’t even organize my own sock drawer. I think an easy packaged ceremony bodes well for us, and the destination provides us with a trimmed down guest list. The C-bus wedding was getting really hard with all the vendors, appointments, meetings, and the like – this is just easier. We fly there, we get married. Simple. More info on our wedding website!
